Woolgrove Primary supports your children with custom made programmes across five main areas.
EYFS Curriculum
All pupils follow an adapted EYFS curriculum to meet their individual needs. The curriculum consists of the 3 prime areas: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development (including Relationships, Sex, Health Education) and Physical Development. The curriculum also covers the Specific areas for children ready to access these: Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World (including RE) and Expressive Arts and Design. Depending on the learning style of the class, the children may follow a timetable structure involving: Engagement sessions, Exploration sessions, sensory breaks and Play and Learn time, or a more traditional subject-based timetable.
Pre Formal Curriculum
Pre-formal Curriculum is for the most complex children who are working below Range 3 in most curriculum areas and has a greater focus on: Communication, Learning behaviours and Independence. The children follow a timetable structure involving: Engagement sessions, Exploration sessions, sensory breaks and Play and Learn time.
Engagement is taught through: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development – including the behaviour curriculum, attention autism and interoception – Life Skills, Puberty and Physical Development.
Exploration is taught through: Phonics, Literacy (handwriting – mark making/typing, comprehension which is taught through shared reading working on book skills, reading behaviours and a love of books), Core Word Programme, Mathematical development – core and supplementary, Music and Religious Education, both of which are taught through enabled environments.
Semi-Formal 1 Department
Semi-Formal 1 curriculum is for complex pupils that are working above Range 3 in most curriculum areas. Similarly to the Pre-formal curriculum, this pathway has an enhanced focus on: Communication, Learning behaviours and Independence. The children follow a timetable structure involving: Engagement sessions, Exploration sessions, sensory breaks and Play and Learn time.
Engagement is taught through: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development – including the behaviour curriculum, attention autism and interoception – Life Skills, Puberty and Physical Development.
Exploration is taught through: Phonics, Literacy (handwriting, composition (learners Range 3 and above), comprehension), Core Word Programme, Mathematical development – core and supplementary, Music and Religious Education.
Semi-Formal 2 Curriculum
Semi-Formal 2 Curriculum focuses on teaching and developing basic skills across all areas of the curriculum, focusing on skills for specific subjects. The children follow a more traditional subject-based timetable structure.
Engagement is taught through: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development – including the behaviour curriculum, attention autism and interoception – Life Skills, Puberty and Physical Development.
Exploration is taught through: Phonics, Literacy (handwriting, composition, comprehension), Mathematical development – core and supplementary, Music, Understanding the World including Technology and Religious Education.
